By the time the 4th month started, nausea and food aversions started to decrease. I was starting to feel more comfortable now.
Wardrobe Malfunction:
Started feeling uncomfortable in my jeans while sitting, since my tummy would press against it. So wanted to get some new comfy clothes. However, at this stage, one is large enough for older clothes but small enough for maternity clothes, so I use to crib a lot about what I can wear to office. I don't like wearing too much of salwar suits, so that just added to the frustration. Me and hubby went to the market one day and bought some slacks and long tops. These are anyways in fashion these days and even non-preggy ladies are wearing them so they are easily available.
I've switched to wearing slacks, skirts and sometimes suits.
The Virus:
I generally do not fall sick easily or often, but they say that the immunity level of pregnant ladies is low. So had a bout of viral fever and had to take rest for 3 days. During pregnancy, one cannot take antibiotics, but Crocin is safe. Antibiotics are given only when it is considered very very essential. So if you fall sick, do tell the physician that you are pregnant.

Another one...
So, the first ultrasound was done ; so far so good. On my next visit to the doc , she asked me to get another blood test done which is to find out any chromosomal abnormalities, like Down's syndrome etc in the baby. Also another ultrasound. This was to be done at 11-13 weeks. Also note that your gynae would call you just once in a month. If they are calling you more than that, they might just be trying to make some money.
Got the above blood test and the ultrasound done. The doc performing the Ultrasound in Apollo this time was not good at all. She din't explain and show anything properly and was kind of cold. We could see the baby's shape this time with its head and the chest area.
Anyways, everything was normal with the baby in the blood test and the ultrasound. However, I had a low lying placenta and some old bleeding in the uterus.
Doc's advise: Nothing to worry about, but no traveling at all. No brisk walking. No lifting heavy stuff. Be relaxed and don't strain yourself. also, gave me Iron and Calcium tablets.
Well that put an end to planning any trips or jumping around too much :)

Review of Dr.Suman Kher
When I was looking for a gynae, a friend suggested Dr. Suman Kher, since she had already consulted her. Being in the IT industry forces you to look for all information on the internet and nowehere could I find a concrete review on her. So I decided to write one myself.
Dr. Suman is a nice and professional lady. She, alongwith Dr. Monica Malik sit in the Apollo Hospital, Noida. Both of them are very pleasant and relaxed docs. They'll give away details of the pregnancy as and when you proceed in. Till date, I am having a good experience with them.
Also, do take an appointment in Apollo for meeting them, atleast I always do that.

The First Three months....
Got all the tests done, as mentioned by the gynae and thank God, everything was normal in the beta-HCG and the blood tests. Took these reports to the doc and she suggested to get the first ultrasound done at 7 weeks. By this time, the baby's heart beat can be confirmed.
I got it done from Apollo, Noida itself. The doctor performing the ultrasound : Dr. Nidhi Bhargava was a really nice lady. She explained and showed everything really well on the screen. We could see the baby's heart and listen to its heart beat. Need I say that the experience was awesome!!! I could feel that there is a living being inside me...
Another TIP: Take your husband inside with you for the ultrasound, he should not miss these experiences.
It was all easy so far and we were coming to terms with this big news in our life... Then, it all started :
The First trimester symptoms:
Morning sickness: Every morning, without fail, after brushing my teeth, I'd feel nauseous and would vomit. Since there is no food in your stomach, nothing comes out in the vomit. I vomitted water, saliva and bile. Now bile is the acid in the stomach which comes out when the stomach is empty and you vomit too hard . It leaves a very bad taste in your mouth...YUCKS!!!!
Drink chilled water after that to combat that bad taste.
As suggested by elders in the family and surfing on the internet, I tried drinking water, eating biscuits, mishri and nariyal even before I got out of bed; but NOTHING worked for me. Day after day, I used to vomit and got really fed up of it.
TIP: Nothing worked for me, I used to feel terrible on some mornings, even cried, but then got used to it...
Mood Swings: I guess my hubby can explain that better. I used to get cranky for no reason at all, start crying on petty things, feel depressed for nothing. Next moment, after some cajoling from him, become happy and laugh :)
TIP: It happens. Just tell your near and dear ones that they'll just have to tolerate you this way. Your spouse should be very supportive of you at this time and he should understand and not take an offense of whatever you say or do....
Always Sleepy: Mornings, I dint feel like going to the office. I felt sleepy after getting up :)
After coming back from the office, I hit the bed straight away. Hubby dear, used to wake me up at 11 in the night to give me dinner. I'd eat that somehow and sleep off again.
TIP: Body needs rest since its undergoing many changes, so rest and sleep all you can. There were some days for me, when I din't got to the office just coz I wanted to sleep and I did that. So, just relax and Enjoy!!!
Food Aversions: This one is bad. I could not eat rotis, curries or any thing spicy. The smell of food made me feel pukish sometimes. All due to the changing hormones in the body.
TIP: I ate curd-rice, dosa, daal-rice and paranthas (instead of rotis). These items are generally bland in taste and do not give out that smell, so its easier to eat them. Well, eat whatever works for you, no restrictions and no compulsions. Just make sure that you are eating something. Drink naariyal-paani, its a good source of protein.
I guess enough if gyaan from my end for now. I'll continue actively till I come to the point where I am currently and then I may post once in 2-3 days, or whenever I feel like.

First experience!!!
First of all, this is NOT a medical advice. Its just an attempt to write down my personal feelings and what I am going through in my pregnancy. Just to give back to the society of pregnant ladies :)
So, from where do I start ? From the time when the first thought of having a child crossed my mind or from the time when I saw those two lines in my pregnancy test?
A little background first: We've been happily married for over 4 years now, din't think of having a child until now - despite the usual family pressure and advices even from those who don't matter, about: why and how you should start a family now and how they did it at the right time and blah blah blah. We'd thought that we'll do it when we feel its right!!!!
So Tip 1: Please don't give in to such pressures. Do it when you and your partner wants to do it. All those people giving free advices won't care a damn when you are going through it all....
Anyways, after trying for about 6 months,I missed my period and took the pregnancy test. Its simple to take : Just pee and put a few drops on the stick... If you get two lines, its positive. Well that's what I did and it was positive on June 13th (R'ber it clearly coz it was my hubby's b'day and that stick was my gift to him!!!)
So, what next? We decided to consult a gynae within a couple of days. I searched on the internet and asked a few friends around and zeroed in on Dr. Suman Kher in Apollo Hospitals, Noida. It was convenient since Apollo Hospital, Noida is very close to our work place (both me and hubby work in the same office)..
This is what the Doctor did on the first visit, after I mentioned that I've taken the home pregnancy test:
1. My Last Menstrual Period (LMP) date. I was already 5 weeks + now. Your current time is calculated from the LMP.
2. Enquired about any illness in our families, like diabetes, thyroid, high BP, low BP, etc. It is good to mention anything and everything, for the records. Even if you feel its small, tell her.
3. Enquired about any illness/diseases I've suffered in the past.
4. Some other routine questions.
5. Did a check up of my stomach and felt the uterus and noted down some measurements.
Her suggestions:
1. Get a beta-HCG test done. This tests the level of HCG hormone in the blood. The level varies at different stages of pregnancy and is really high at the beginning. So this is like a confirmatory test of your pregnancy.
2. Get a complete blood investigation done. She gave a list of the tests to be done. It had various things like Hemoglobin, thyroid etc etc. I got it done from Lal Path Labs near my house.
3. Asked me to visit her again with the two reports.
4. Asked me to take Folic Acid tablets. These are important for the nervous system growth of the baby and should be taken from the very start.
Well this was about my "first" experience. To be continued in the next post...
